‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: The Actress Meg Ryan Publishes Emotional Tribute to Rob Reiner
Meg Ryan has published a heartfelt tribute to the late filmmaker Rob Reiner, under whose direction she worked in the iconic romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.
A Tragic Discovery
Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home this past weekend.
“How we will long for this man…” the actress posted on Instagram, next to an image of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. We appreciate your faith in human goodness and your deep patriotism.”
Charges Filed
Reiner’s son Nick, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and appeared in court today. He’s being detained without the option of bail. Reports indicate that Reiner’s daughter Romy discovered her father deceased.
“I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised,” Ryan continued. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.”
A Statement from Siblings
Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy issued words today. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”
Hollywood Tributes Pour In
Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, similarly honored Reiner via comments shared yesterday alongside tributes from Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.
“His comedic touch was beyond compare, his love of getting the music of the dialogue just right, and his sharpening of the edge of a drama was simply elegant,” the tribute noted. “For the actors, he loved them. For the writers he made them better. Freedom was his key offering. He listened to ideas and included you in the creative journey. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”

When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, grossing more than $93 million worldwide and securing Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.
Rob Reiner was introduced to Michele Singer Reiner while making When Harry Met Sally. The pair were introduced by Barry Sonnenfeld, a director and friend.
Reiner’s extensive filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were married for 36 years.
